Read More	Coon Rapids Enterprise November 8, 1912 Ebert Godown, son of Mr. and Mrs. P.M . Godown, a lad of twelve years, was accidentally killed in a hunting accident last Saturday morning. He had gone duck bunting with Faye Rickerson and Ralph Cowie along the river south of town They found some game near the Bower farms and one of the larger boys Ralph Cuwie, shot a duck which fell in the river. He and his older companion started to wade in alter the duck, the gun, with one barrel loaded, being handed by Ebert. It appears that the young lad started to climb up the bank with the gun, pulling it by the muzzle, when the trigger to the loaded barrel caught on something and discharged the gun, the discharge entering the lads breast under the heart. Both the older boys had their backs to Ebert when they heard the shot. They turned quickly and ran to the boy and asked him if he was hurt. He replied "yes" and almost immediately died. Naturally the accident was a great shock to the parents and no one can know the grief they feel and the whole community sympathize with them and their great sorrow. The funeral was preached by Rev. Miller at the Christian Church Monday afternoon, with a very large audience being present to express our sympathy. Ebert was a fine, bright boy and a favorite with his companions by whom he will be greatly missed. It is useless to moralize send such matters. Boys will go hunting and swimming. These things appear to be part of a boy's life, though there is always more or less danger in them fatal accidents. Probably boys should not be permitted to have guns or to go out hunting, but is next to impossible to prevent them taking chances even in dangerous sports. There is probably more danger, and even many more fatal accidents in the game of football and yet the game is approved by teachers and many parents. "In the midst of life we are in death" and there is no sure way to guard against fatalities.
