Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15 at the Wessington Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 14 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service with a Masonic Service to follow all at the Wessington Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 at the Wessington Cemetery. He was born to the late Alex Rowen, Jr. and Frances (Lichty) Rowen on June 17, 1930 in Vayland, SD. He graduated from Wessington High School in 1948 after participating in football, basketball, and baseball. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Chesebro on June 17, 1951. They lived together in the St. Lawrence area for most of their married lives. Ed was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He loved the outdoors, golfing, hunting, golfing, bowling, golfing, watching sports, golfing, and spending time with family or golfing! He was an avid storyteller with his sense of humor showing through in everything. Ed was an active member of many civic organizations including the Yelduz Shrine, Eastern Star, the Wessington Masonic Lodge AF&AM 107, the American Legion Watson-Krauter Post 110, Scottish Rite Yankton Valley, Wessington Presbyterian Church, Hand County Conservation board supervisor and chairman, and Production Credit Association (PCA) board. He is survived by his wife, Janice; his three children, Mark (Gloria) Rowen of Pierre, SuAnne Meyer of Miller, Melanie (Roderick) Jackson of San Antonio, TX; his six grandchildren, Audra Johnson of Sioux Falls, JD (Marisa) Meyer Jr. of Carrollton, TX, Alex Meyer of Carrollton, TX, Daniel (Idalina) Jackson of Austin, TX, Benjamin Jackson of San Antonio, TX, Sarah Jackson of San Antonio, TX; four great grandchildren; his brothers, Ken (Mary Margaret) Rowen of Lawrence, KS and Eugene (Joyce) Rowen of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Rosina Yager and Dolores Brown and one granddaughter, Laura Rowen.
