Edgar was a longtime resident of Milford, but moved to Heartland Senior Retirement Living Center in Seward a year ago. Edgar was born March 24, 1919 on a farm near Milford, Nebraska to John A. and Susan (Rediger) Hershberger, the second youngest of eight children. His greatest concern was that his family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren... Read More	Edgar Allen Hershberger, of Milford, died on Saturday, December 15 in Seward, NE. Edgar was a longtime resident of Milford, but moved to Heartland Senior Retirement Living Center in Seward a year ago. Edgar was born March 24, 1919 on a farm near Milford, Nebraska to John A. and Susan (Rediger) Hershberger, the second youngest of eight children. As a believer in Jesus Christ, Edgar is now experiencing the joys of heaven and a reunion with the saints, without the limitations of a physical body slowed by age. His greatest concern was that his family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren come to faith in Jesus Christ and share the riches of a Christian relationship with other people. He was a member of the Bellwood Mennonite Church for over fifty years. Edgar was baptized at the East Fairview Mennonite Church in 1933, and later attended high school in Dorchester, NE. Before World War II, Edgar managed a Conoco service station in Iowa City, Iowa until he was drafted. As a conscientious objector, he served in the Civilian Public Service during the war at camps in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Malcolm, Nebraska. Edgar worked as a salesman, including being the Standard Oil bulk agent in Milford; in sales and management positions in clothing and shoe departments in Lincoln and Omaha; and for the major part of his business life selling investments offered by Waddell and Reed. He was the broker-owner of Hershberger Real Estate serving Milford and the surrounding area. Edgar and his wife traveled extensively with his work and for the church. Edgar was very generous with his time and resources. Among many service activities, he taught a Sunday School class for developmentally disabled adults for a number of years at the Milford Rest Home, volunteered at the People's City Mission, the Lincoln Correctional Center, and provided leadership locally and regionally in the Men's Prayer Breakfast movement. He was a friend to all he met, and will be missed by all who knew him. Edgar married DeElda Lucille Eicher on December 25, 1938, and would have celebrated 74 years of marriage in ten days. Edgar is survived by his wife DeElda; sons Gordon of Syracuse, NY, Gregory (Catherine) of Lincoln, NE, and Ray (Rosemary) of Columbus, OH; five grandchildren, Heidi (Dave) Kovarik of Syracuse, NY, Amy (Paul) Monsour of Pasadena, CA, Jonathan (Roopal) Hershberger of Tampa, FL, Emily (Brian) Bolton of Harrisonburg, VA, and Lisl Hershberger of the Dominican Republic; two step grandchildren, Karen (Rob) Beatty of Phoenix, AZ, and Jeff Hoffman of Tampa, FL; six great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren; sisters in law Ada (Burdette) Hershberger, Rainy River Ontario Canada, Verba (Merle) Eicher, Milford, Lillian (Lawrence) Beckler, Seward, and many nieces and nephews. Edgar was preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Hilda Roth, Elva Roth Troyer, Theresa Swartzendruber, and Iola Hershberger; brothers, Clarence, Albert, and Burdette; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Hoffman Hershberger; granddaughter, Rosanna Hershberger and step great grandson, Matthew Beatty. Burial was in the Milford Mennonite Cemetery, Milford, NE.
