Description	:	Edgar (Bub) Denham, son of William Allen Denham and Emma Jane Brown Denham, was born October 30, 1884, and died June 26, 1956. On July 24, 1912, he married a school teacher, Blanche May Erickson, daughter of Joseph and Sadie Shields Erickson. Blanche was born July 26, 1893, and died July 29, 1966. Read More	Edgar (Bub) Denham, son of William Allen Denham and Emma Jane Brown Denham, was born October 30, 1884, and died June 26, 1956. On July 24, 1912, he married a school teacher, Blanche May Erickson, daughter of Joseph and Sadie Shields Erickson. Blanche was born July 26, 1893, and died July 29, 1966. When his parents moved to Cumberland, Blanche and Bub moved into the big Denham home, where they lived and farmed until 1942, when they moved to Massena. To this union three children were born: Joseph William died in infancy, Fay Madeline born November 15, 1915, and Max Allen born November 30, 1917. They attended the Pine Grove Methodist Church and Blanche took an active part in the ladies aid. Bub was Massena Township Clerk for many years. For eight years the children attended the rural Denham School. Blanche, Fay, and Max all graduated from the Massena High School. Max's graduating class chose the motto that his mother's class had chosen 25 years before. The motto was: "With the ropes of the past, we'll ring the bells of the future." After moving to Massena, Bub worked at the Fullerton Lumber Yard. Both took an active interest in the Massena Methodist Church and in the town activities. Blanche was city clerk for a number of years. After graduating from high school, Fay began teaching in a rural school. By summer sessions, night classes, and correspondence work, she received her degree from Omaha University. She taught rural school, then taught in Massena, Granger, and Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Edgar Averill of Lincoln and retired in Lincoln after 44 years teaching. Max helped his father with the farming and worked as a mechanic at the Yarger Auto Shop. He spent four years in the navy, most in the Pacific area. Max married Rita Peebles of Griswold on September 23, 1944. They had three children: Judith Fay born December 4, 1946 and married John Smith; Dennis Allen born April 2, 1951 and married Cindy Carder; and Debra Ann born December 31, 1958 married Michael Walsdorf. Dennis had one daughter, Jennifer, born May 14, 1971. Denny was killed in an auto accident November 14, 1976. Max received a degree in mechanical engineering at Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, and worked for the Oliver Tractor Company. He transferred to Minnesota, then to Chicago, retired and moved back to Charles City. Bub, Blanche, and the baby are buried in the Massena Center Cemetery.
