He died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Dames was born on April 20, 1923, to Herman Dames and Emma (Kurz) Dames on the family farm northwest of Scribner, where he lived his entire lifetime. Dames was born on April 20, 1923, to Herman Dames and Emma (Kurz) Dames on the family farm northwest of Scribner, where he lived his entire lifetime. He attended Trinity Parochial School in rural Scribner and Dist. 25 School. He farmed northwest of Scribner and also worked at Armour in West Point, and at Terra Chemical in Scribner. Dames married Ardyce (Legband) Dames on Aug. 8, 1948 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Snyder. After retiring from farming in 1985, he spent his time as an AKC Dog Breeder until he became ill last fall. Dames was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Scribner until it closed. He also held several church offices at Trinity. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. Survivors include: his wife; one son, Randy (and wife, Sandy)Dames of Scribner; four daughters, Diane (Mrs. Larry) Hibbs of Castroville, Texas, Carolyn (Mrs. Robert) Moenning of Linwood, Neb., Linda (Mrs. Dan) Dirkschneider of Snyder, Janice (Mrs. Dave) Pruss of Fremont; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Dames of Mohave Valley, Ariz. and Wanda Dames of Scribner; 13 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers - two in infancy, and Albert and Melvin Dames; two sisters - one in infancy, and Leota Legband. The Rev. Donald Levenhagen will officiate at Saturday's service. Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. tonight at Spear-Johnson Funeral Home in Scribner. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in rural Scribner. Memorial have been established at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Scribner Rescue Squad.
