Read More	FINAL RITES HELD SUNDAY FOR EDGAR E. PAYTON Edgar Elsworth Payton, son of John Henry and Margaret Lamb Payton was born April 29, 1875 on a farm four miles North of Lancaster. He passed away at Wellsville, Ohio, on Wednesday Feb 16, 1944 at the age of 68 years, nine months and 17 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, one sister, Mrs Della Burns of Lancaster; one step daughter, Mrs Olive Letner, one foster daughter, Mrs Anna Lee Shepherd of San Diego, Calif and a host of other relatives and friends He attended the Lancaster public school and later taught several years in the rural schools of Schuyler County. When just a young man he united with the Lancaster Christian Church. For several years he was engaged in the blacksmithing business in Lancaster, later he worked as train master for the West World Wonder Shows. He was married to Olive Hecker at Gastonia, N.C. on October 8, 1926. Although he has been in failing health for some time, he was seemingly much better and his death came as a great shock to his loved ones. The body was brought to the home of Mrms Hardin Burns in Lancaster Saturday evening and laid in state until the service Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock held in the Christian Church by the Pastor, Rev T. M. Walton assisted by Rev Thurman Andrews. Burial was in the Lancaster City Cemetery. Singers were Mrs Patsy Ayer, Mrs Hazel Melvin, Mrs Edith Ballew and Mrs Margaret Silvey.
