He was a member , Deacon and Sunday school teacher of Demory Baptist Church. He was the former Superintendent, Clerk and Treasure of the church. He was a member and past Master and Secretary for many years of Stooksbury Lodge #602 F&AM. He was a member , Deacon and Sunday school teacher of Demory Baptist Church. He was the former Superintendent, Clerk and Treasure of the church. He was a member and past Master and Secretary for many years of Stooksbury Lodge #602 F&AM. Member of the Royal Arch Chapter #212, Council and Commandery of the York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason of Knoxville. He was the Chairman of the Campbell County Scottish Rite Club. He worked for the Curtis Candy Company for 15 years. Mr. Overbey was preceded in death by wife, Josie Belle Morton Overbey; grandson, Mark Owens and parents, John Washington, and Sarah Morris Overbey; brothers, Albert George and Charles Overbey. Mr. Overbey is survived by sons and daughter in law, Lewis E. and Carol Overbey of Knoxville, Gary Franklin Overbey of Charlotte Harbor, Fla.; daughters and sons in law, Charlotte and Esco Owens, Connie and Harold Tackette all of Caryville, Joann and F.H. Dagley of Knoxville; daughter in law, Jill Overbey of Fort Charlotte, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 4 great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2000 at the Demory Baptist Church with Rev. J.L. Shoun, Rev. Ray Siler and Rev. Conley Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Pond Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2000 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Masonic services to follow at 8 p.m. by the Stooksbury Masonic Lodge. Martin Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
