GOD BLESS ^j^ ---------------------------------------------------------- Toledo Chronicle, Iowa February 16, 1933 Edgar Schoolcraft Died At Renwick Thursday Edgar Schoolcraft, former Toledo resident, died last Thursday at his home at Renwick. He had been ill since last September. Mr. Schoolcraft was about seventy years of age. After his marriage to Miss Clara Pears, of Toledo, forty-two years ago, the couple went immediately to Renwick where they have since resided on a farm. He is survived by his wife and four children. Estella and Opal of Charles City, and Vern and George of Renwick. There are also many other relatives. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon. Mrs. H.W. Fuller, a sister-in-law, attended the funeral from Toledo. Other Toledo relatives are Mrs. Anna Pears and Mrs. Joe Kubic. ********************** Source Unknown E.L. (Lyle) Schoolcraft Dies Wednesday of Last Week. E. L. Schoolcraft, one of the earliest residents in this vicinity and a farmer in Boone Township for 29 years, passed away at his country home Wednesday evening of last week following a hemorrhage. He had been seriously ill for several months. Mr. Schoolcraft was a prominent Wright country farmer and stock raiser, being especially interested in sheep, and his services were required all around the country at shearing time. He was a good neighbor and friend and loved his family and home. Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. Belden Weikel, pastor of the Renwick Methodist Church, at the home at 1:30 Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, and at 2 o'clock at the church. Interment was made at the Elmwood cemetery northeast of Renwick. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. E.H. Mason and sons, Virgil and Edgar and LuVerne Stratton of Charles City, Verne Schoolcraft and family of Goldfield and Mr. H.W. Fuller of Toledo. Edgar L. Schoolcraft, son of Edmond and Elizabeth Schoolcraft, was born August 24, 1862 at Arkwright, Arran township, Bruce county, Canada, and departed this life Wednesday evening, February 8, 1933 at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 14 days. At the age of 9 years he emigrated with his parents to the United States, locating at Toledo, Iowa. Some fifty years ago he and his brother James came to Renwick. There was no town here at that time, only a few buildings, and they farmed a portion of what is now the town site of Renwick. He assisted in building the Hardy Methodist church fifty years ago this past summer, at that time united with that church. 47 years ago he went to Oregon where he acquired a large herd of sheep and lived on the range for five years, returning in 1891 to Toledo, Iowa, where on July 25 of the same year he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Pears. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Wright country, Iowa where they have resided ever since on their Boone township farm, with the expection of two years when the family lived at Randalia, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Schoolcraft were the parents of six children, two of whom died in infancy. He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife, who has been his constant attendant during the months of his illness, and the following children: Mrs. Estella Mason of Charles City, Verne Schoolcraft of Charles City, and George Schoolcraft at home. Also the following brothers and sisters: John at Ralls, Texas, Edward A. at Agricola, Kansas, Joseph at Scranton, PA., Mrs. E.B. Ward, Canton, China, for many years a missionary under the United Brethren Board, and Mrs. Mary A. Rose of Rock Island, IL. There are seven grandchildren.
