Only excerpts will be included here. Funerals of Edgar Thomas Theobald, Ernest Davis and Joseph Elbert Christman took place form the Quinn W. McCord undertaking parlors Monday afternoon. The following is a short history of the three fallen heroes: Edgar Thomas Theobald was born February 24, 1896, at Iowas City, Iowa, came to Colville early in March, 1911. he enlisted, was sent to Camp Lewis April 28, 1918, remaining there until June 28. He was assigned to Company L, thirty-sixth infantry. He landed in France July 20, 1918. he went immediately to the front. On October 9 the company of which he was a part charged the stronghold known as hill Number 255 in the Meuse-Argonne Sector. Mr. Theobald was doing effective work as an automatic rifleman; when advancing about dusk he was hit by a machine gun bullet and instantly killed. he fell facing the foe. this was probably October 10. The company had been fighting , writes his captain, for some days in this sector where there had been ample opportunity to test the true worth of the men and in no way was Private Theobald found lacking. he was a man beloved of his comrades and always ready to go out of his way to help the other fellow and held the respect of those about him. he gave his all for his country and the great cause of liberty in the same willing way that marked his life as a soldier. ~~~...~~~...~~~...~~~ Edgar appears in the 1900 Scott & East Lucas Township, Johnson, Iowa, US census at five years old with his family. The family listed is Alfred age 48 born New York, Margarett age 37 born in Ohio, Ray age 17 born in SD, Ethel age 15 SD, Ruth B age 13 SD, Fred age 11 Ill. Edgar age 5 Iowa, Clyde A age 3 Iowa, Merrel age 1 Iowa. In 1910 the family is in the same location and is shown as consisting of Alfred age 58, Margret age 49, Raymond age 26, Ethel age 23, Alfred age 20, Edgar age 15, Clyde age 13, Marie age 11. Ruth is missing either married or deceased.
