Description	:	Edison Adelbert GRAFFLIN was born 18 December 1914 in Durango, Colorado. He was the son of William Ellis GRAFFLIN and Rosie Nell WINNER GRAFFLIN. He was the grandson of William Mason GRAFFLIN and Carrie LORE GRAFFLIN. His great, great grandparents were Jacob GRAFFLIN and Sarah Herring, his great grandparents were William Howard GRAFFLIN and Sarah Mason, all of Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of William Ellis GRAFFLIN and Rosie Nell WINNER GRAFFLIN. He was the grandson of William Mason GRAFFLIN and Carrie LORE GRAFFLIN. His great, great grandparents were Jacob GRAFFLIN and Sarah Herring, his great grandparents were William Howard GRAFFLIN and Sarah Mason, all of Baltimore, Maryland. The GRAFFLIN'S were a prominent family in Baltimore. William Mason GRAFFLIN, Edison's grandfather was a Mining Contractor and Engineer in Gunnison and La Plata counties in Colorado. When Edison, later known as "Red" because of his red hair, was a small boy the GRAFFLIN family removed to Angels Camp, Calaveras County, California where they continued in the mining industry. His father died when he was only 14 and he was thrust into the position of man of the house. He graduated from Bret Harte Union High School, Angels Camp, CA in 1933. He then served in the United States Navy during 1934 to 1936. At one point he was stationed on the USS Mississippi. Though no longer in the military he was in Pearl Harbor at the onset of WWII. Later in his life Edison enjoyed taking his family to the mountains to his mining claims where he followed the legacy left by his grandfather, though on a much smaller scale. He was the father of four boys and one girl, (that's me). He died of cancer 6 February 1985 in our home town of Red Bluff, California where he was laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
