Edith passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the WIsner Care Center. Edith Christine Skinner was born on July 21, 1915 in Wisner, NE, the only child of Harry E. and Kathryn (Stauffer) Leisy. Edith passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the WIsner Care Center. Edith Christine Skinner was born on July 21, 1915 in Wisner, NE, the only child of Harry E. and Kathryn (Stauffer) Leisy. She was baptized and confirmed at the former Salem Mennonite Church, south of Wisner, NE. Edith graduated from Wisner High School in 1933 and went on to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1939. While in Lincoln, was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and she worked as a Stenographer of a law firm. She taught business classed at Pierce High School in Pierce, NE in 1939 and 1940. On June 15, 1940, Edith was united in marriage to Jesse Skinner in Alliance, NE. The couple lived in Thedford and Alma, NE, where Jesse was a County Extension Agent. The couple moved to Aberdeen, MD while Jesse attended Army Officer Candidate School and daughter Joan was born in Maryland. Edith and Joan moved to West Point, NE while Jesse served two years overseas during World War II. After the war, the family lived in Wisner for four years before move to the family farm north of Wisner. Their daughter, Gail, and son, Brent, were born while in Wisner. They lived on the family farm for 40 years and then moved into the new home they built in Wisner in 1990. They continued to enjoy spending time with their family as well as traveling in Europe and throughout the United States. Edith was musically gifted and played the piano and sang solos for weddings and funerals in the Wisner area in her younger years. She enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge clubs. Edith was especially known for baking cinnamon rolls and shared them with those in the community. She was an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their athletic, music and academic activities through the years. In March, 2003, Jesse and Edith were crowned the Wisner St. Patrick's Day Celebration King and Queen. For years the couple was well known for walking miles on the Wisner-Pilger High School track for exercise. They contributed throughout their lives to better the community through the giving of their time, talents and resources. Edith was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wisner, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Following the merger, became a member of the United Methodist Church of Christ and served in various offices and as President of the United Church Women. She was a member of Chapter EP, PEO and served as President; was a member of the Nifty Neighbors Extension Club; and was a charter member of the Wisner VFW Auxiliary Post #5767 of Wisner. In 2012, Edith was honored as a 75 year member of Alpha Chi Omega national sorority and in 2013 was honored as an 80 year graduate of Wisner High School at the Wisner Alumni Banquet and was the oldest graduate in attendance. Survivors include: Children and their families: Daughter-Joan (Rick) Adkins of Laurel, NE and family Sara (John) Landgren Skretta and children-Sam & Ben Landgren, Tony and Coby Skretta; Amy (John) Brooks; Betsy (Mark)Becker (Mark; Megan Adkins and fiancé Jamie Bollwitt and her daughter Claire Gangwish Daughter- Gail (Hal) West of North Fort Myers, FL and family Bill West and son Jacob West; Carole(Joe) Manschula and son Anthony Manschula Son-Brent (Denise)Skinner of Menomonie, WI and family Brooke (Matt) Dawz and sons-Chase and Blake; Mitchell Skinner and Ahna Minge Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jesse on February 23, 2011, sister-in-law-Catherine Moeller on May 18, 2010, and grandson in law Mark T.
