Clauson O'Banion was born in Crawford county, Iowa, on January 1, 1898, the daughter of Alfred and Lottie Anderson Clauson. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the Kiron Baptist Church and grew up in Crawford county. After graduation from the Denison High school in 1916, Edith taught a year of country school. She then taught for four years in the Deloit schools. Edith and Mert O'Banion were united in marriage at the Baptist parsonage in Kiron in 1922. She continued to substitute teach in the country school system. In later years, Edith made her home in LeMars, Iowa. Her husband passed away in 1963. Edith had made her home in Denison for the past six years. Her death occurred September 27, 1990, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. At the time of her death, she had attained the age of 92 years, 8 months and 26 days. Edith was a member of the Baptist church in LeMars, the Baptist Women's Fellowship, and the LeMars Friday Club. She also taught Sunday School at the Baptist churches in Kiron and LeMars. Preceding her in death were her husband, Mert, two daughters, Laura Mae Johnson and Jean Hilton, and two sisters, Ethel Clauson and Ruth Stehlik. Those left to cherish her memory include one step-daughter, Dorothy Hathaway and her husband, Bill, of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Myrtle Waldemar of Kiron, and Lillian Stehlik of Vail; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
