Description	:	Edith Irene Gerstenberger, 87, of Oelwein, died Friday, Nov. 28, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Oelwein, daughter of John Hardy and Minnie Jane Brown Shaw. She married Francis Alanson Gerstenberger on May 12, 1939, at First Presbyterian Manse, Oelwein. He died March 14, 2007. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1938. She was a lifelong Oelwein resident and farmed with her husband west of Oelwein for many years. She was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Oelwein, daughter of John Hardy and Minnie Jane Brown Shaw. She married Francis Alanson Gerstenberger on May 12, 1939, at First Presbyterian Manse, Oelwein. He died March 14, 2007. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1938. She was a lifelong Oelwein resident and farmed with her husband west of Oelwein for many years. She was a homemaker and also was a store clerk at Woolworth and Select Cleaners. She was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Twilight Bowling League, Jolly Circle and the Tuesday 8 Club. Survived by: four daughters, Janet Laird of LaVista, Neb., Sue (Bill) Klendworth and Jo Ann (Steve) Meyer, both of Oelwein, and Ellen (Ron) Burris of Bettendorf; a son, Tom (Dee) of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two brothers, Kermit Shaw and Donald Shaw; two sisters, Florence Stewart and Mildred Herron; and a son-in-law, Leland Laird. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ United Presbyterian Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. Memorials: may be given in her name to the church. She was an avid bowler and card player.
