Description	:	Edith L. Bierwagen, 78, Spearfish passed away Friday, March 16, 2007 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish with Pastors Kent Stillson and Ken Fouty officiating. Bierwagen, 78, Spearfish passed away Friday, March 16, 2007 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Spearfish. A memorial has been established to benefit Parkinson's Research and local charitable aid. Edith was born on July 14, 1928, to Gerhard and Clara (Harby) Anderson, at home in Campbell County, S.D., nine miles north of Glenham. She was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church. She attended Wayside Country School and graduated from High School in Glenham, S.D. in 1946. After obtaining her teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College in 1949, she taught in one room schoolhouses in Campbell County. On Dec. 27, 1953, Edith married Gilbert Bierwagen, in Glenham at Norway Lutheran Church. They had five children. During Gil's career, they lived in McIntosh, Spearfish, Mission, Presho and Brookings. They returned to Spearfish after retirement and enjoyed traveling across the nation visiting family and friends for many years. Edith was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, volunteering at the Dorsett Home and with the quilters. She was also active in the Lower Valley Women's Extension Club and TOPS. Edith enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and gardening. Survivors include two daughters, three sons and their spouses, Karen Bierwagen of Seattle, Wash.; Mark and Susie Bierwagen of Roanoke, Va.; Roy and Tammy Bierwagen of Seattle, Wash.; Dean and Tracie Bierwagen of Ames, Iowa; Minn.; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Calvin Anderson of Mobridge, S.D. and Theodore (Teddy) Anderson of Glenham, S.D.; and a sister, Alpha Prasek of Selby, S.D. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert, parents and brothers, Lloyd Anderson and Palmer Anderson and sister, Bertha Prasek. Edith will be missed by family, and many friends in Spearfish and across the country. Arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish and Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
