She was born December 15, 1919 in Eddyville to Harry and Lillian VanDePol Burns and was lovingly raised by her mother and Hayden Charles Evans. She married Homer Stringfellow May 8, 1942 and he preceded her in death September 30, 1968. She married Hubert Steele November 8, 1970 and he precede her in death in August of 1980. Read More	Edith Marie Burns Stringfellow Steele, 100, formerly of Eddyville, died at 5:35 p.m. April 11, 2020 at Oskaloosa Care Center. She was born December 15, 1919 in Eddyville to Harry and Lillian VanDePol Burns and was lovingly raised by her mother and Hayden Charles Evans. She married Homer Stringfellow May 8, 1942 and he preceded her in death September 30, 1968. She married Hubert Steele November 8, 1970 and he precede her in death in August of 1980. A graduate of Eddyville High School, she earned her teaching certificate from William Penn. She taught in Brush College country school, was a substitute teacher and was a librarian in Eddyville. She also worked 24 years at the Media Center for AEA 15. She was a member of Eddyville Community Church and she played the organ at the Congregational Church. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Eddyville TTT Chapter BC. Surviving is a daughter Janet (Wally) Wilson of Des Moines; a son, Charles "Chuck" Stringfellow of Albia; with her marriage to Hubert she was blessed with the following children, Myrna (Paul) Hynick of Eddyville, Nora (Frank) Daley of Texas, Evelyn (Edward) Fiero of Arizona, Ellen (Charles) McCrea of Eddyville and Carol Ann (Larry) McNeese of Eddyville; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Steele of Perry; a son-in-law, Jake Azlin; also survived by 26 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Leila Evans of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, JoEllyn Stringfellow; Hubert's children, Karen Azliln and Gary Steele; a sister, Alice Shephard and a brother, Hayden Evans. Limited visitation will be open to friends from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. Private graveside services and burial will be Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.rfh-ia.com. Memorials may be made to Faith Community Church. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
