Description	:	Edith M. Greene, 88, a retired piano teacher, died of a stroke at a local Lakeview care facility Dec. 7, 1997. Mrs. Greene was born in Pasadena, CA to Richard Riggs and the former Anna Hickenbottom. She was a long-time member of the Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild at Trinity Church in Ashland from 1962 to 1977. She also was a member of Eastern Star for many years and the American Legion Auxiliary. Greene, 88, a retired piano teacher, died of a stroke at a local Lakeview care facility Dec. 7, 1997. Mrs. Greene was born in Pasadena, CA to Richard Riggs and the former Anna Hickenbottom. She was a long-time member of the Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild at Trinity Church in Ashland from 1962 to 1977. She also was a member of Eastern Star for many years and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Greene attained her high school diploma after her children were grown and also studied geology for two years at Southern Oregon University. She took piano lessons from a private instructor to enhance her self-taught piano-laying skills and later taught piano and accordian from 1940 to 1962 in Hornbrook and Mount Shasta, CA; and at the Walker School on the Klamath River. She taught piano in Ahsland from 1969 to 1974. Mrs. Greene was a generous supporter of many charitable organizations, including the Shriner's Children's Hospital in San Francisco, CA; the Unity School of Christianity in Missouri, the Medford Gospel Mission, the Jimmy Carter Center, The March of Dimes, and The Salvation Army. She also contributed to the upkeep of the grand piano for the Lakeview Community Concert Association. Survivors include her husband, Robert Greene, Lakeview; daughter, Roberta Green, Colville, WA; son, Gordon Greene, Lakeview; adopted daughters, Linda Kemry, Paisley, and Lydia Mercer, Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Brownie Collins, Tucson, AZ; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Green, a daughter, Pauline Mallow, a son Kenneth Green, a brother, Gordon Benson, and a sister, Patricia Timmons.
