Born June 25, 1912, in Cambridge, Mass., she was the only child of the late Robert and Isabelle (MacDonnell) Reid. Edith spent her school years in Somerville, Mass. She was kept very busy with studies, piano, voice lessons, church choir and her dogs. Read More	SIMM, Edith Muriel — It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edith Simm on August 3, 2009, in Dykeland Lodge at the age of 97. Born June 25, 1912, in Cambridge, Mass., she was the only child of the late Robert and Isabelle (MacDonnell) Reid. Edith spent her school years in Somerville, Mass. She was kept very busy with studies, piano, voice lessons, church choir and her dogs. She graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business School and studied nursing at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. She came to Nova Scotia to visit her parents and met her husband- to-be, Russell Simm in Gore. Music, dancing and sporting a great horse and sleigh brought them together. She loved country life and together they raised five children on their farm. She was very interested in community, school and political affairs and was church organist for over 50 years. Edith is survived by her sons, Roger (Brenda), Truro; Warren, Kennetcook; Aubrey, West Gore; daughter, Annie (Ronald) Wood, Gore, and grandchildren Allen, Keith W., Shawna, Russell, Pamela and Keith S., and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell; son, Keith; grandchildren, Susanne and Kevin Wood. In respect to her wishes, cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A graveside service will be held in West Gore Community Cemetery, West Gore on Friday, August 7, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory can be made to the Rawdon Hills Health Centre, Home Care, the Victorian Order of Nurses or West Gore Church of Christ. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Barbara O'Neil, Home Care workers, especially Anita and Cathy and the VON for their care over the years. Also to Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou and Dykeland Lodge for their care and compassion over the past three and a half months.
