Description	:	Edith Viola Gray, 91, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born March 9, 1918, in Jefferson County, Iowa, the daughter of Dwight and Nona Smith Ridinger. On Aug. 20, 1935, she was united in marriage to Paul Gray at Mount Pleasant; he died June 24, 1984. Together with her husband, they had farmed near Hillsboro and Salem for many years. They also operated Gray's Café in Hillsboro. Later, Edith was a clerk in grocery stores in Hillsboro and Salem. After retiring, they lived in Mount Pleasant. Edith was an excellent cook and delighted in cooking for her family. She was a spotless housekeeper and skilled seamstress and made much of her own clothing and many items for her family. Her family includes two daughters, Shirley Thornton of Ottumwa and Charlotte Messer of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, Rennie Thornton, Ricci (Dick) Rush, Rusty Thornton, Ronda Frye, Chris (Sharron) Messer and Mike (Dawn) Messer; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two sons-in-law, Dick Thornton and Bob Messer; two brothers, Rex and Glen Ridinger; and three sisters, Mary Gholson, Thelma Stanley and Ruth Patterson. Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. today at Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant with Rev. Wayne Kamm officiating. Published in the Ottumwa Daily Courier on 9/3/2009
