She was born in Unity, March 9, 1911, the daughter of LaForest and Mista N. (Reynolds) White. On September 20, 1930, she married Merton N. Reynolds, 90, died Sept. 20, 2001, surrounded by her family at her granddaughter Laura Kelley's home in Bangor, where she was lovingly cared for during her illness. She was born in Unity, March 9, 1911, the daughter of LaForest and Mista N. (Reynolds) White. On September 20, 1930, she married Merton N. Reynolds and they shared 59 years of togetherness before he went to be with his Lord, July 21, 1989. Mrs. Reynolds died on what would have been their 71st wedding anniversary. Edith was a member for many years of the South Unity Community Church, which later became Quaker Hill Christian Church. She served in different capacities in the church which include a Sunday School teacher, secretary, and treasurer. She retired from Unity Telephone Co. as an operator. She was past Noble Grand of the Favori Rebekah Lodge of Unity, past member of the Harvest Moon Grange of Thorndike, the Pomona Grange, and State and National Grange. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, loved caring for area children and was known as "Minnie" to them. She also loved gardening. Survivors include two sons, Rev. Richard A. Reynolds and his wife Teen of Swanville, and Silas D. Reynolds of Freedom; two daughters, Mary E. Rich-Simaitis and her husband, Tony of Florida, and Elsie L. Ladd and her husband Richard of Freedom; special friends Craig and Anne Lowe of Unity; 15 grandchildren and 29great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband; her daughter Eva C. Ames and her husband, Forrest "Bud" Ames II; a brother, Phillip L. White; a sister, Daisy White Day; two half brothers, Allen and Karl Larrabee; a son-in-law, Quinn Rich; and a daughter-in-law, Irene (Ashe) Reynolds. Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Quaker Hill Christian Church, Unity, with the Rev. Fred Williams officiating. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Corner of Main and Depot St., Unity. Burial will be in the Quaker Hill Cemetery in Unity. Contributions in her memory may be made to either the Quaker Hill Christian Church or to the New Hope Hospice, Route 46, Eddington, ME 04429.
