Description	:	Edith Young Shinn, 98, of Kenna, passed away Jan. 6, 2016 at Ravenswood Care Center following a long illness. She was born April 5, 1917 in Gay, Jackson County, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Evans Young. She was a graduate of Ripley High School, where she was a member of one of the first basketball teams in school history. She was born April 5, 1917 in Gay, Jackson County, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Evans Young. She was a graduate of Ripley High School, where she was a member of one of the first basketball teams in school history. She and her husband, the late Lavelle Shinn, owned and operated Shinn Service Station in Kenna for many years. Edith was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, which included six children: Luveda Powell, Charlotte Mays, Helen Miller, Gary Young and Joan Tincher. Surviving are her two nieces and two nephews and their families. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.waybrightfuneralhome.com.
