Direct cause of death was paralysis, dating from an attack which took place last summer, which left him partially helpless. Direct cause of death was paralysis, dating from an attack which took place last summer, which left him partially helpless. A week ago, he suffered another attack which brought the end nearer and while the end came suddenly, it was not unexpected. Funeral was held Monday, service being conducted in the Presbyterian Church of which denomination deceased was a faithful member. Rev. Wimberly was in charge of the services and the funeral arrangements were in charge of the local Odd Fellows Lodge. Although a member of the I.O.O.F. in Decatur, Iowa, deceased was a frequent visitor at the local lodge. The church was filled with friends and neighbors who came to say "goodbye" to an honored citizen and faithful friend and neighbor. Deceased moved from the farm several years ago and prepared to reap the rewards of a life of toil and until his illness last year, he had never had a serious illness. The confinement in helplessness told upon him and hastened his death. He was a fine type of citizen and in his passing the community shares the grief of the surviving relatives. During his long illness the loving wife was ever at his side, ministering to him and giving of her strength in the long battle for recovery. While in pain and discomfort, the old spirit and keen wit never failed and a chat with MR. JOHN was as enjoyable as ever to his intimates. EDMOND J. JOHN was born in Schuylkill County, Penn., in the year, l848. At the age of one year, he moved with his parents to Rockford, Ill., where he lived for 25 years, from there he moved to Iowa where he resided about twenty years, after which he moved to Kansas and lived there 7 years and the last twenty years, he has lived in this town and community. On September l4, l873, he was united in the bonds of holy wedlock to MISS SARAH B. MCKINSTRY, at Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union were born 8 children; MRS. F.T. BRUNER, of Wheatland, Wyo; MRS. P.E. BRUNER, Decatur, Iowa; WALTER O. JOHN, who died l7 years ago; MRS. I.S. TOLLY, Decatur, Iowa; MRS. A.H. NELSON, of Stickney; RALPH E. JOHN, of McIntosh, S.D.; J.F. JOHN, of Plankinton; MRS. F.N. SHOTTENKIRK, of Presho, S.D. MR. JOHN united with the church in his young manhood, lived a faithful Christian life and died in the triumphs of the Christian faith. He was a loyal citizen, a good neighbor, a kind and loving friend, an affectionate and indulgent father. His spirit passed from earth to Heaven, June 8th at 7 p.m. At the time he passed away, he was 73 years, 8 months and 3 days old. He leaves to mourn his loss, a loving wife, 7 children, 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, a sister, MRS. SARAH BURCH, of Rockford, Ill., and a host of friends. --Plankington, S.D.
