Services are 10:30 a.m., Thurs. March 29, 2018 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine with military honors. Ed was born in Brooklyn on January 22, 1926 to Edmond and Cantellis (DeSloover) Landuyt. He was one of ten children. As a youngster he grew up in the Brooklyn and Chelsea area. Attending Chelsea country schools. Ed worked the family farm until he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from January 1945 to September 1946 in WWII. He married Dorothy Dvorak in 1947 and adopted her daughter Sharon. From this union four children were born, Eddie, Steven, Penny and Susan. They resided in the Tama and Belle Plaine area. They later divorced. Ed was stationed overseas in the Philippines. After his discharge he worked many years until retirement as a meat cutter for Kupka’s Meat Market, Cliftons and Sunmart in Tama, IA. Ed won numerous awards for his skills. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #39 and served as commander for nine years. In his younger days he had a passion for rolle bolle, card playing, fishing and mushroom hunting. Ed loved playing his harmonica, singing and making people laugh. What he loved most was his family and friends visiting so he could tell stories about the war and his younger days. He is survived by his daughters, Penny Wiese of Belle Plaine and Susan Landuyt Bukowy of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; sons, Eddie and Steven Landuyt and daughter, Sharon Anderson. HRABAK FUNERAL HOME
