There will be no public visitation on Saturday at the... Read More	Edmund "Butch" Berger, 85, of Lidderdale, died Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at his home in Lidderdale, surrounded by his family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm. Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Rosemary Riesberg. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be no public visitation on Saturday at the church. Those attending the funeral mass are required to abide by social distancing guidelines and face coverings are required. Face coverings are recommended at the funeral home. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Ed Berger Family. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Born at Willey, Iowa on February 12, 1935, Edmund “Butch” Berger was the son of George and Theresia (Brincks) Berger. At a young age, his family moved north of Coon Rapids where Ed attended Coon Rapids School. Following his schooling, Butch assisted his family with their farm operation. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 where he was stationed in Germany for 18 months. Following his honorable discharge, Butch returned to the Carroll area. On November 14, 1959, Butch was united in marriage to LaVonne Starman at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle, Iowa. The couple made their home north of Glidden where he was a farm hand until moving to Lidderdale and going to work for the Glidden and Lidderdale Cooperatives for several years. Butch then was employed with Carroll County in the secondary roads department for 20 years until his retirement. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, mowing, and helping his son-in-law and neighbors with the fall harvest. Butch also enjoyed western movies, dancing, polka and waltz music. He had a great devotion to his faith where he was a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale until its closing. Most of all, Butch loved his family; they meant the world to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butch is survived by his wife, LaVonne; his children: Denny (Lu), Tom (Lynn), Bob (Brenda) and Diane (Tom); eleven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Dorothy, Roman, Gerald (Jealeen), James (Carol) and Pat (Larry); as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, George and Theresia Berger; his siblings: Marie (Bill) Riesberg, Leona (Bert) Seidl, Joe (Vi) Berger, Lucille Berger, Al Berger, Frances (Albert) Meiners, Bernice (Elmer) Bluml, Ray (Ginny) Berger; his parents-in-law, John and Louise Starman; and his brother-in-law, Leon Starman.
