In the 1880 Census he was listed as a Plasterer. ------------------------- OBITUARY - News-Journal, North Manchester (IN) - March 17, 1921 Ed Grube, one of the oldest residents of this community and pioneer painter and plasterer, died at his home at Liberty Mills Wednesday morning about nine o'clock. He had been in failing health for nearly a year, but had steadfastly refused to stay in his bed until an hour before his death. The funeral will be held at the Methodist Church at Liberty Mills, Friday forenoon at 10:30. Rev. Fred Feighner of Roanoke will conduct the service and burial will be in the Comstock Cemetery. Mr. Grube was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania 87 years ago January 18. He enlisted in a Pennslyvania company when the Civil War first broke out. His enlistment period expired and he was discharged coming to Liberty Mills in 1862. A little later he again entered the Army serving until the close of the war. He married Miss Lavina Kissinger, who died about ten years ago. They were the parents of seven children, five of whom preceded the father in death. The living are Mrs. David Calhoun of Liberty Mills, and Mrs. George Enyeart of North Manchester. Mr. Grube followed the plastering and painting trade all his life, being actively engaged at the latter until a year or two ago. It is said that he taught more painters in Liberty Mills and North Manchester how to paint than any other man. Mr. Grube was a member of the Grand Army Post here and the members of the post will attend the funeral. -------------------------
