Description	:	Former Seward resident, Edmund Daniel Plisek, age 95 years, 2 months, 20 days, passed into eternity on Sunday, October 31, 2010, as he was surrounded by his family and loved ones, at the Nebraska Heart Institute Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Edmund was born on August 11, 1915, in Bee, Nebraska to Frank Joseph Plisek and Antonia Fronie Shalon. He was the seventh of eight children born to them. Read More	Former Seward resident, Edmund Daniel Plisek, age 95 years, 2 months, 20 days, passed into eternity on Sunday, October 31, 2010, as he was surrounded by his family and loved ones, at the Nebraska Heart Institute Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Edmund was born on August 11, 1915, in Bee, Nebraska to Frank Joseph Plisek and Antonia Fronie Shalon. He was the seventh of eight children born to them. Edmund grew up in Bee, attending school there through the tenth grade. When the family moved to a farm near Utica, Nebraska, he finished his last two years of high school at Utica, graduating with the class of 1933. In 2008 his class was the Honor Class at the Class Reunion and Edmund was the sole survivor of his graduating class. Following his graduation from high school, Edmund farmed near Utica, but it was difficult to be a farmer during the "dirty thirties". He volunteered to work in the Civilian Conservation Corp. and worked out of Lebanon, Kansas. With the advent of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater as a member of the 38th Seabee Construction Battalion. He entered the service on June 3, 1944 and was honorably discharged on April 26,1946. One of his favorite stories was to tell how he had been involved in building the runway on Tinian island from which the Enola Gay took off on its historic flight on August 6, 1945. On November 27, 1946, Edmund was united in marriage to Maxine June Heers at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born, Carroll and Daniel. In 1950, Edmund and Maxine purchased their home in Seward, and they lived in the same house until April of 2008 when they moved to The Meadows Independent Living Facility in Norfolk, Nebraska. Beginning in 1950, Edmund was employed at the Seward Post Office as a city mail carrier. In addition, he enjoyed helping his father-in-law farm for many years. In the late 1970's, Edmund transferred to be a rural carrier and worked out of the Utica and Beaver Crossing Post Offices until his retirement in 1983. After retirement, he worked for several years at Volzke Funeral Home. Edmund was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Seward and was recognized recently by the diocese of Lincoln as being its oldest acolyte. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and he was also a member of the Seward American Legion and VFW. Edmund enjoyed many activities over the years, but he especially enjoyed speaking to the students at the high school and sharing his experiences of growing up during the Great Depression and serving during World War II. He and Maxine enjoyed dancing and making many friends. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edmund is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Maxine of Norfolk, NE; two sons, Rev. Carroll (Judy) of Neligh, NE and Daniel (Lynne) of Dubuque, IA; five grandsons, Ryan (Kathy) of Norfolk, NE, Craig of Neligh, NE, Joel (Mary) of Louisville, NE, Brendan (Stephanie) of Omaha, NE, and David of Dubuque, IA; nine great-grandchildren, Dominick, Abbigail, Ashlee, and Alyssa of Norfolk, NE, Colby and Ellie of Neligh, NE, Gabriel and Christopher of Louisville, NE and Ethan of Omaha, NE; and his sister-in-law Vivian (Ray) Naber of Utica, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edmund was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lewis, Frank and Julius; four sisters, Mary Plisek, Anna Hennessey, Rose Brittenham, Antonia Robbins; five brothers-in-law, John Hennessey, Kenneth Brittenham, Bertin "Pete" Robbins, Howard Baack, Darrell Daehling; four sisters-in-law, Louise Plisek, Jessie Plisek, Doris Plisek, Dorothy Baack; nephew Charles Robbins and Great-grandson, Dawson Plisek.
