Born July 29, 1918, in Odebolt, Iowa, Edmund Joseph Bengford was the son of John H. and Nettie (Albers) Bengford. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ida Grove, Iowa. Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, with the Rev. David Hemann and Deacon Mike Stover officiating. He received his education at Odebolt country schools. On Aug. 11, 1938, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Mary Cranston at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. During the early years of their marriage, he worked for Krusenstjerna Implement in Odebolt and later began farming north of Odebolt. In 1964, the couple moved to their farm southeast of Ida Grove. The couple was blessed with three children, Diane, Susan and Patrick. They enjoyed nearly 67 years of marriage when Phyllis passed away in 2005. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as trustee and taught CCD for many years. In earlier years, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Odebolt. He served on the volunteer ambulance crew and was a charter member and treasurer of Ida area of Life. He enjoyed woodworking and life on the farm. The couple spent nearly 20 happy winters in Texas. Survivors include two children, Susan (Raymond) Drey of Ida Grove and Patrick Bengford of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Higgins of Galva, Iowa; a brother, Raymond Bengford of Deloit, Iowa; four sisters, Marie Pollien of Odebolt, Eileen (Lou) Cass of Dow City, Iowa, Rita (Marvin) Tiefenthaler of Early, Iowa, and Aloysia (Wes) Bernhardt of Odebolt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane Higgins in 1992; an infant granddaughter, Katherine Higgins; a grandson, Tim Higgins; and three brothers, Joseph, Leo and Lawrence
