Read More	BURGE, Edmund L. July 13, 1936 - January 4, 2018 Ed was born in Tonasket, Washington to Jasper and Helen Burge. Ed has one sister, Lorraine Frostad, who resides in Spokane, Washington. He graduated from Ellensburg High School. In high school he was a varsity basketball player and track letterman. His ability to stay in the saddle helped pay the bills while he was attending college. He trained young horses for income and also participated in amateur rodeos as a saddle bronc rider and a calf roper. He married the woman he would go on to spend 58 years with while they were both attending Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. After many trips to the drive-in where she worked and nights of taking her out dancing, Ed got Sally McCullough to say "I do" in September of 1959. He went on to graduate from Central in 1961 with a BA degree in Pre-Dentistry. Ed was honorably discharged from the United States Army in October of 1962. He then taught science at Kittitas High School for several years. From there he worked for GMAC and the Farm Credit Services. He was determined to be self employed by the age of 50. At that point, he was involved in several entrepreneurial ventures - the most successful being the early implementation of mobile document shredding. He sold that company to a larger competitor after getting it up and running successfully for several years. While Ed pursued his business ventures he always had several other irons in the fire. He always maintained a herd of cattle on his Deep Creek Farm located west of Spokane, raised registered Quarter Horses for many years and was the region's premier collector of Hamley saddles. He served on the Cheney School Board of Education for seven years, was leader of a 4-H club for many years, as well as serving on the Lilac Fair Parade board as the Equine Advisor. Both of his daughters were active in local horse jumping, so Ed had to haul the jumps to the shows, set them up, take them down and store them for the club. His generosity of spirit and heart was felt by all who knew him. During the course of his life he opened his home and farm to many family and community members. He hosted equestrian events at the farm for more than 30 years, Civil War re-enactments that brought thousands of people tramping around the farm, as well as providing the perfect spot for all major family events. You never saw Ed not dressed to impress. When he wasn't in a business suit, he loved his cowboy cut wranglers, Luchese cowboy boots and Stetson hat. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Cynthia Jane Burge. He is survived by his wife Sally; daughter Debbie Dillon of Lakeside, Montana; son, Curt Burge of Medical Lake Washington; two granddaughters - Georgia Dillon and Katy Burge; two grandsons Dwight Dillon and Jace Burge. A private graveside service will be held at Reardan Cemetery on Monday, January 8th. A celebration of life will be held at Ed's Deep Creek Farm later this summer.
