The family moved outside of Grimes when she was 4 years old. Edna attended country school and graduated from Johnston High School. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes. The family moved outside of Grimes when she was 4 years old. Edna attended country school and graduated from Johnston High School. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes. Edna attended and graduated from AIB in Des Moines. On June 23, 1941 Edna married Ernest August Knoll in Grimes. Edna was a homemaker and an avid gardener who took pride in her beautiful flower beds. She loved cooking, canning, preserving, and always had a dessert at the end of a meal. Edna enjoyed working on church dinners and being involved in bible study with her Ladies Aid women at church. She loved to sew and taught her daughters how to sew. Edna made many of her kids' clothes on a treadle sewing machine. She worked hand in hand with Ernest farming, raising poultry and managing the farm finances. Edna enjoyed being a grandma to six grandsons and one granddaughter. She was also a proud great-grandmother of two little girls. Edna is survived by four children Ruth (Merle) Reingardt of Iowa Falls, Eric (Kim Drischell) Knoll of Toddville, IA, Carla (Denny) Prather of Ankeny and Philip Knoll of Grimes; grandchildren, Luke (Meghan), Jacob, Will, Alina (Adam), Andrew, Marcus and Dugan; and her great-granddaughters Lucy and Cora. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, and son August. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, January 20 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church.
