Description	:	NESS CITY — Edna Berneice Ummel passed away at Kit Carson, Colo., on May 21, one day short of her 83rd birthday. She was born May 22, 1926, at the family home in Bazine. She was the daughter of Alex and Amalia Schneider Wittman. She was a homemaker and in 1971 she became a nurses' aide at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom, where she worked until her retirement in 1993. Read More	NESS CITY — Edna Berneice Ummel passed away at Kit Carson, Colo., on May 21, one day short of her 83rd birthday. She was born May 22, 1926, at the family home in Bazine. She was the daughter of Alex and Amalia Schneider Wittman. She was a homemaker and in 1971 she became a nurses' aide at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom, where she worked until her retirement in 1993. She attended her hometown school in Bazine until her graduation from high school in 1944. She and Rolla Ummel were wed on Aug. 14, 1946; at this time she became a member of the Mennonite Church in Ransom. To this union five children were born: Richard, Fern, David, Donald and Doris. Edna was a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her much pride and joy. She spent most of her life at home raising her children. She then went to work as a nurses' aide where she gave her patients the best care imaginable. Mrs. Ummel was a member of the First Mennonite Church and was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 7972. Edna will be sadly missed by her two sons: Richard, Ness City, and Donald and wife Jackie, WaKeeney; her daughters, Fern Renner, Cheyenne Wells, Colo., and Doris Scott and husband David, Ness City; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her brothers: Elmer and wife June, Seattle, Wash., and Robert and wife Joyce, Meade; her sisters: Violet and husband Louis "Bud" Black, Great Bend, and Arlene and husband Marvin Davis, West Valley, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, David, her brother, LeRoy, her sister, Florene, and a son-in-law, James. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Mennonite Church, Ransom.
