A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington, with Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. A second service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Simmons was born December 3, 1922 in Wayne County to Harvey Leon Hood, Sr. and Martha Edgerton Hood. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Edward Simmons; three daughters, Gail Keith, Verbie Jordan and Diana Lynn Simmons; an infant son; three brothers, Harvey Hood, Jr., Floyd Hood, Thomas Allen Hood, and infant brother, Joe Carlton Hood. She was a homemaker. She is survived by three sons, Donald Simmons and wife Susan of Lexington, Butch Simmons of Lexington, and Tommy Simmons of Walkertown; three brothers, J.B. Hood of Florence, SC, Roy Hood of Toronto, Canada, and James Hood of Irvington, KY; three sisters, Thelma Williams of Roseboro, Eunice Carter of Turkey and Annette Robinson of Rose Hill; 26 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.
