Read More	Boone County Democrat May 8, 1913 Word was received in the city Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Edna Beckett, wife of Dr. O.F. Beckett of Hiawatha, Kansas. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Irving of this city. She grew to young womanhood in Colfax township and was married to Mr. Beckett some years ago. To this union were born two children, Irving and Florence, who with the father are left to mourn her death. About five years ago they removed from this city to Hiawatha, Kansas, where they have since resided and where Dr. Beckett was engaged in his practice. The remains were brought to this city and the funeral held this afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from her parents’ home, 504 Boone street, Rev. George Crissman of the First M.E. church officiating, and the remains laid to rest in Linwood Park cemetery. An obituary will be published in our next issue. Boone County Democrat May 15, 1913 The funeral services of Mrs. O.F. Beckett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Irving, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the Irving residence at Fifth and Boone streets, attended by many friends of the family. The services were beautiful and impressive, seemingly in keeping with the exemplary life of the departed. Accompanied by Miss Helen Bonnard on the piano, Mrs. Nellie Sebring sang “Jesus Lover of My Soul,” and “Face to Face” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.” Dr. George D. Crissman, pastor of the First Methodist church, had charge and took his text from Proverbs the 31st chapter and 28th verse, “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her.” The remarks of the pastor were unusually appropriate and proved the source of much consolation to the heartbroken family and the saddened friends. The pallbearers were chosen from the lifelong friends of Mrs. Beckett and were Messrs Theodore Duckworth, John M. Brown, R.T. Duckworth, Wm. Brown, Judson Brown and Paul Dyer. The interment was in Linwood Park cemetery. The subject of this sketch was born in Colfax township, Boone county, Iowa, August 21st, 1870, and passed away at her home in Hiawatha, Kansas, on Monday morning, May 5th. She was united in marriage to Dr. O.F. Beckett, December 25, 1893, to which union were born two children, both of whom survive her, the son, Irving being sixteen years old and the daughter, Florence, six years. She is survived also by her husband, Dr. Beckett, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.R. Irving and her only brother, George B. Irving. Mrs. Beckett united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1890 and remained a consistent member of the same until the time of her death. On November 17, 1901, with her husband, she became a member of the First M.E. church of Boone and remains continually in this relation until March 2, 1903, when the family left this city to make their home elsewhere. Mrs. Beckett in her exemplary Christian life and character, was the logical product of the splendid Christian home in which she was reared. She represented the highest type of wifehood and motherhood, and by reason of her many virtues and graces in the home that has been desolated by her death. To perpetuate such a character in the lives of those who still live, constitutes both inspiration and comfort.
