Louise Easterday, 90, of Columbia City, died at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at Miller's Merry Manor, where she had been a resident since July 2013. She was born Aug. 29, 1926 in Whitley County, a daughter of Elmer J. and Daisy A. (Buffenbarger) Cox. Her formative years were spent in Washington Township. She graduated from Washington Center High School in 1944. On Nov. 13, 1949, she was united in marriage to George Easterday Jr. They made their first home on a farm in Coesse until moving to Washington Township in 1954. In October 1981, they moved into Columbia City. Mr. Easterday died April 11, 2016. A homemaker, she worked at General Electric for two years, Whiteleather Law for John Sr. for more than five years and later for Buffenbarger Abstract part-time. A long-time member of Washington Center United Methodist Church, she was most recently a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church. Surviving relatives include four sons, David A. (Joyce) Easterday, of Columbia City, Larry W. (Anne) Easterday, of Warsaw, Dennis L. (Tracy Rumsyre) Easterday, of Columbia City, and Steve L. (Mary) Easterday, of Roanoke; six granddaughters, Rachel Burcroff, Sarah Ancel, Elizabeth Easterday, Lauren Salla, Rosemary Easterday and Maryfrances Easterday; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Scott, of Columbia City. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Easterday; a brother, Eldon Cox; and a sister, Mary Catherine Riddle. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 N. Forest Pkwy., with visitation after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The burial will be in Eberhard Cemetery. Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Preferred memorials are to Riley Children's Hospital or Columbia City United Methodist Church music fund.
