She became ill suddenly Saturday evening and was admitted to Memorial Hospital at 9:20 Saturday evening. The daughter of Allie and the late Bertha Hodson, Edna M. Pleasant, at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the age of 54. She became ill suddenly Saturday evening and was admitted to Memorial Hospital at 9:20 Saturday evening. The daughter of Allie and the late Bertha Hodson, Edna M. Hodson Hartley was born near Salem April 1, 1899. She graduated at the Mt. Pleasant High School in 1921, and on Nov. 7, 1922 she was married at Burlington, Iowa to Edgar C. Hartley. They lived for 2 years in Burbank, Calif., and then moved to Salem, the rest of her life bing spent in the Salem community. Mrs. Hartley was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, active in many civic affairs, and diligently worked in various clubs, religious functions. She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church. Mrs. Hartley leaves her husband, Edgar, a son, Jack, of Cedar Rapids and a daughter, Barbara Strait at home. She also leaves one grandson, Michael Strait, her father, Allie Hodson of Mt. Pleasant, and the following sisters: Mrs. Helena Smetzer of Vinton, Mrs. Myrtle Olafson of Los Angeles, Calif., Miss Gladys Hodson of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Wilma Led of Pomona, Calif., and Mrs. Thelma Bell of Salem. Her mother and three brothers, Dale, Lee and Hugh Hodson preceded her in death. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1953 at the Salem Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Jay N. Waterman officiated. Music was by Mrs. Grace Kasper accompanied by Mrs. Dorothy swan. Pall Bearers were: Harry Stevens, Ben Allred, Carrol Walz, A. J. Lee, Wayne Garretson, and W. W. Simkin. Interment was in the Friends Cemetery. In charge of services was the Kasper Funeral Home, Salem.
