Memorials to the Newton Christian School or the Donor’s Choice may be left at the funeral home. Edna, the daughter of Edward and Flora (Knight) Henle, was born on June 7, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. She moved with her family to Newton, Iowa when she was 5 years old. Edna graduated from Newton High School in 1951. On September 5, 1953, Edna was united in marriage with James “Jim” Farland at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. They were blessed with two children: Joyce and Jimmy. When Jimmy was in high school, Edna began working and worked mostly in the mortgage and real estate business. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for many years; teaching Sunday School, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, and volunteering for church lunches. She most recently attended the Pleasant View Methodist Church. Edna was also a member of the Angus Auxiliary and RSVP. She enjoyed gardening and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. Edna is survived by her husband, Jim Farland of Newton; children, Joyce (Gary) McGaha of Apopka, Florida and Jimmy Farland of Newton; grandchildren, Amy Kinkaid of Millersburg, Florida, Ryan McGaha of Apopka, Florida, and Nick Karey, stationed in Mississippi with the U.S. Navy; three great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Don Henle; four brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law. Burial info provided by FAG contributor Carl Nollen #48232813.
