Description	:	OTTUMWA - Edna Mae Thompson, 98, formerly of 314 Tacoma, died at 12:30 am Feb. 20, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. She was born March 5, 1913 in Ottumwa to William Charles and Anna Catherine King Robinson. As a young girl, she cleaned homes for people after her father died and left her mother to raise 11 children. Read More	OTTUMWA - Edna Mae Thompson, 98, formerly of 314 Tacoma, died at 12:30 am Feb. 20, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. She was born March 5, 1913 in Ottumwa to William Charles and Anna Catherine King Robinson. As a young girl, she cleaned homes for people after her father died and left her mother to raise 11 children. She also worked in poultry houses, plucking chickens and helped to raise her younger siblings. She attended Garfield and Franklin schools, graduating from the eigth grade at Franklin. Because of having to help her mother at home, she attended Adams school one day a week until she was 16. She married Robert "Bob" Leon Thompson on Dec. 7, 1933 in Newton. He preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1983. They raised three daughters. With one daughter being deaf, they went through the trial of having to send her away from home to attend the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. During World War II, she went to work outside the home, working at Swift's and Wilson's poultry houses. Later she worked at Iowa Steam Laundry, and then worked as a maid again, cleaning people's homes. Before retirement, she worked in the Ottumwa High School lunchroom. She was a member of the Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church at Eldon for most of her life, joining the church with her husband a few years after they were married. She was also a member of King's Daughters amd AARP and traveled several trips with AARP after her husband died. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara(John)Sickels of Douds, Patty(Bill)Hancock of rural Ottumwa and Marilyn Wilt-Bruno of Ottumwa; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-granchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Robinson of Davenport. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Wayne Anthony; an infant daughter, Nancy; a grandson, Gary Wilt; five brothers, Bill, Frank, Edward, Danny and Jim Robinson; four sisters, Adeline Shepard, Elnora McKittrick, Emma Cloyd and Vielet Yeoman. Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Elder Clyde Farmer and Elder Stephan Conte, officiating. Burial will be in the Pierce Cemetery near Floris. Visitation will begin at 11 am Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 pm Wednesday. Mrmorials may be made to Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church.
