Read More	LAKE PRESTON — Edna Marek, 84, Lake Preston, Edna died Friday, May 23, 2008 at a De Smet hospital. Visitation will be at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston. She was born Nov. 26, 1923 to Paul and Minnie (Larson) Marek on their farm near Oldham. Along with her sisters and brothers, she went to a country school a mile and a half away. A few years later armed with the knowledge of the basic R's and homemaking skills learned from a dear mother, she was ready to face the world. She worked at several housekeeping jobs, but it was in the Olson home where her life became full and rich. Margaret Olson had just died, leaving 10-year-old Gale and 8-year-old Caroline without a mom. Isaac Olson, Margaret's husband, (or Ike as he was known by his many friends), appreciated having a helpmate too. With many tasks to be taken care of besides the home and children, she put her whole heart into the job and made that family hers. She spent more than 30 years with his family. She was baptized into membership at Oldham Lutheran Church. She found strength and comfort in God's promises and the support of many relatives and caring friends. She took on several jobs during the next few years as she eyed retirement. Some of the duties were of housekeeper and at other times she worked as a "practical nurse" caring for elderly invalids in their homes. She had her own apartment in Lake Preston, finally. It didn't take her long to start doing volunteer work at the nearby nursing home. She was also an avid quilt maker for the Lutheran Church in Lake Preston. Survivors include two brothers, Walter Marek of Long Beach, Calif., and Duane Marek of Lakewood, Calif.; two sisters, Helen Glaser of Sioux Falls, and Phyllis Nelson of Lake Preston. She is also survived by many members of the Olson/Wilde clan (her "special family" ) now extended and blended with the Marek relatives.
