HERMAN GELOW Edna, daughter of Frank and Julia Emery, was born May 26, 1878, in Hudson Twp., La Porte Co., Ind., where her childhood and girlhood years were passed. She received her education in the district school and, later, became one of the township's most efficient teachers. At an early age she united with the Methodist Protestant Church at North Hudson. HERMAN GELOW Edna, daughter of Frank and Julia Emery, was born May 26, 1878, in Hudson Twp., La Porte Co., Ind., where her childhood and girlhood years were passed. She received her education in the district school and, later, became one of the township's most efficient teachers. At an early age she united with the Methodist Protestant Church at North Hudson. September 2, 1900 she united in marriage with Herman Gelow of Three Oaks, Mich. The first eighteen years of their married life was spent in this place and here the three sons, Harold, Robert and Russell were born. The family then moved to Hudson Lake, where amid the familiar scenes of her childhood she spent the remaining years of her life. She had been in poor health the past two years but her last illness was of short duration, and she passed away at the home of her sister Mrs. Llloyd Galbreth, Dec. 7, at the age of 49 years, 6 months, and 9 days. She left to mourn her departure her sister, husband, and three sons, many other relatives, and a host of friends. In lodge affiliations she was a member of Oak Camp No. 559, Royal Neighbors of America. Funeral services were held from the home at Hudson, Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10. Burial took place at the New Carlisle cemetery, Rev. C.V. Bigler officiating. Mrs. Gladys Tetter and Mrs. Ray Evans sang, while Mrs. C.R. Young and Miss Helen Young played on the violin. Out-of-town attendants at the burial were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gelow, Mr. Otto Gelow, Mr. Ernest Gelow, Mr. E.J. Bassett, all of Kalamazoo; Mr. and Mrs. Prinderville of Oak Park, Mrs. Kettenbach of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Cadwell of Rolling Prairie, Ind., and Mr. and Mrs. Dell Roberts of Galien, Mich. Also Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gelow, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gelow, Nina and Lavern; Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Gelow, besides many others of the Three Oaks friends. Hers has been a life well spent. Ambitious and energetic, efficient in all the ways of the household, a good neighbor and a true friend. We who do not understand the mysteries of life and death are prone to wonder why at this time in her life when the future looked bright and full of promise, when she was so badly needed by the loved ones in her home, the Master called her. "Not now, but in the coming years, It may be in the better land, We'll know the meaning of our tears, And then ah then, we'll understand."
