Pastor Frank Gantt will officiate with burial in Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon. A memorial has been established. EDNA RUTH MAIER was born July 29, 1923 near Haynes, ND to Carl B. and Emma K. (Kirschemann) Maier. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended grades one through eight in Haynes. She worked for a short time at the hospital in Miles City, MT and then at the Red Owl grocery store in Lemmon. On July 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Albert Emanuel Rieger in Lemmon at St. Luke's Lutheran Church located on Main Street at that time. They began their life together on the Rieger Homestead near Athboy. Edna and Albert moved to their home south of Keldron in 1949 where they farmed and ranched together for 46 years. This union was blessed with four daughters, nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Edna was an active farm wife working indoors as well as outdoors. She worked side by side with her husband in the fields and with the livestock in their farming and ranching operation. They raised chickens, milked cows, and always produced a large garden and did a lot of canning. Edna and Albert retired and moved into Lemmon in September of 1993 where they continued to spend their retirement years together. Albert moved into Five Counties Nursing Home in May of 2004 and Edna continued to live in her home until December of 2007 when she moved into Five Counties Nursing Home. This marriage was blessed for 59 years and 8 months. Her husband Albert passed away on March 20, 2006. Edna passed from this life at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the age of 88 years, 2 months, 29 days. She enjoyed sewing, writing letters, singing hymns, and reading her Bible. She was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemmon. Surviving family members include her 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Don Tomac, Keldron, SD; Norma Lickfelt, Gillette, WY; Myrna and John Erhardt, Lemmon, SD; Carrie and Jay Hollenbeck, Gillette, WY; 9 grandchildren, Shannon and Becky Tomac, Robyn (Garrett) Schweitzer, and Joelle Tomac, Zane, Prairie, and Reid (Barbara) Grate, Amber and Cassa Hollenbeck, and one great granddaughter, Hadley Lynne Schweitzer; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Carol Maier, Minneapolis, MN; Ed and Norine Maier, Dickinson, ND; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Freda Hoffland, Lemmon, SD; Ida and Don Helbling, The Dalles, OR; Bertha (Ray) Gossen, Rogers, MN; 2 brothers-in-law, Harold Gall, McIntosh, SD and Loran Rieger and his wife, Holly, Green Valley, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by his parents, her husband Albert, 7 sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Christ Erlenbusch, Irene and Richard Rieger, Albina and Gust Hermann, Lydia and Ted Kirschemann, Pauline and Gottlieb Flagel, Adeline and Ted Thompson, Emma and Ben Gref, and Harold Hoffland; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Roland Maier, and John and Albina Maier. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and on Friday one hour prior to services at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Lemmon.
