Edna (Wolff) Gulke was born May 17, 1929 in rural Forbes, ND to George G. and Mary (Pleines) Wolff. She attended country school, finishing high school at Ellendale. Edna married Erwin E. Gulke on December 4, 1948. They became members of Seventh-Day Adventist Church on April 14, 1956 where Edna taught children for 18 years. Erwin and Edna were blessed with two children, Diane (Bryan Murray) Gulke of Duvall, Washington and Corey (Shannon) Gulke of Ellendale. They farmed in the Ellendale area and over the years built three homes. Edna attended classes and worked as a secretary in the Dean's office at North Dakota State Normal College in Ellendale. She later attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, receiving a registered nursing degree. She worked for St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen as a charge nurse on the night shift for close to 20 years and later at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakes, ND. Edna retired from nursing to care for her dying mother. She moved to Aberdeen, built a home and worked at Wal-Mart for 15 years while her son took over the family farm in Ellendale. Edna was a woman of faith and heart; she cared for people her entire life, especially her children, who are forever thankful. Her sweet smile and gentle nature will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, brother, Richard Wolff and infant sister, Helena. Edna's family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support from family, friends, and staff that cared for Edna for the past two years at Primrose Cottages and Angelhaus.
