Description	:	Edsel F. Johnson, 79, of Kearney died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney after many years of poor health. Services were held Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. North Sherrill officiating. Burial with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 759, American Legion Post No. 52 and the National Guard Unit of Kearney was Friday at Minden Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 30, 1922, to Jim and Esther (Edmunds) Johnson in Kearney County. He graduated from Minden High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-46. On Oct. 31, 1948, he married Lillian Fritson. They farmed east of Minden before moving to the edge of Minden where they farmed and raised hogs. When his health failed, he retired and they moved into Minden. In 1990, they moved to Kearney. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, The American Legion Post No. 52, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 759. He was township and school treasurer and also a 4-H leader, all in Kearney County. Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Kay Banner of Minden; one son, Kim Johnson of Glenwood, Iowa; two sisters, Glenna Zern of Overton and Norene Haynes of Mount Home, Idaho; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
