Description	:	Miles City Star, 26 Oct 1960 Edward B. Holt, 84, lifetime resident of Miles City and son of one of Miles City's most prominent pioneer families, died Tuesday in a local hospital. He had been hospitalized just five days prior to his death. Mr. Holt was the son of John M. Holt, pioneer cattleman, banker and civic leader of early-day Miles City. Mr. Holt was the son of John M. Holt, pioneer cattleman, banker and civic leader of early-day Miles City. His father is a member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, and was the man whose motion brought the Montana Stockgrower's Association into existence in Miles City in 1885. Born in Marysville, Missouri, July 17, 1876, Ed Holt came with his parents to Montana in 1879. They settled first near Big Timber and then trailed the cattle to the Tongue River south of Miles City at about the present location of the SH ranch. They had to leave that area, however, as an excess of buffalo created an overstocked range, and so the family moved to Mizpah Creek where they started the LO ranch which Ed operated with his father. Mr. Holt attended Miles City schools and also attended the Shattuck Military Academy in Minnesota. The family home was in what was later the Darcy Hospital on South Strevell. In recent years Mr. Holt made his home at 409 Palmer. He had never married. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Elks Lodge. The only survivors here are two second cousins, Lucille Mott and Bill Woodcock. Holt's father died in 1913 and his mother in 1941. Mr. Holt was a first cousin of Elmer Holt, former governor of Montana.
