Description	:	Wenatchee World - Jan 1, 1997 Edward B. Smith, 80, a longtime resident of Peshastin, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 30, 1996, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born April 13, 1916, to Benjaman and Helen (Langa) Smith in Wakefield, Mich., where he began his early education. In 1928, he moved to Peshastin, where he continued school and, at the age of 16, began working at Peshastin Lumber and Box. He became a steam engineer and was foreman of maintenance. Smith, 80, a longtime resident of Peshastin, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 30, 1996, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born April 13, 1916, to Benjaman and Helen (Langa) Smith in Wakefield, Mich., where he began his early education. In 1928, he moved to Peshastin, where he continued school and, at the age of 16, began working at Peshastin Lumber and Box. He became a steam engineer and was foreman of maintenance. On Oct. 15, 1936, he married Berniece Bastron in Peshastin, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Ed retired in 1975. Mr. Smith was a member of the AFL-CIO and the Apple Valley CB Club. Survivors include: his loving wife, Berniece, at home in Peshastin; two grandsons, Edward B. Smith, of East Wenatchee, and Andrew D. Smith, of Wenatchee; one granddaughter, Cynthia A. Majack, and great-granddaughter, Rachel Majack, both of Cashmere; two brothers, Stanley Smith, in California, and Roger Smith, of Peshastin; a special daughter-in-law, Ruby Smith, of Peshastin; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Ann Moss, of Camas, and Pearl Hampton, of Vancouver. He was preceded in death by a son, Delmer, in May of 1996, one sister and one brother. Braun Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
