Gross, 90, of 813 Tyler St. NE, Cascade, died at 9:40 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. He was born on Oct. 28, 1917, in Cascade, son of George and Frances (Breitbach) Gross. He received his education in the rural schools in South Dakota. He married Ramona M. "Mona" Radloff on May 9, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade; she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2006. He was employed at Till Hardware until 1971, he then worked at the Supper Club 528 in Cascade, as a bartender extraordinaire; he was well known for his great jokes and card tricks. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and a member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528, for which he was past commander. He was a retired volunteer of the Cascade Fire Department. Ed spent many hours in his workshop creating lovely wood items for his family. He also enjoyed the game of golf and shared that love with his children. Surviving are five children, Margie Gross and Glenna (John) O'Connor, both of Dubuque, Alan (Mary) Gross, of Des Moines, Donna (Jim) Brady, of De Witt, and Neil (Deb) Gross, of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Alanna O'Connor, Elizabeth Brady, Mitchell, Garrett and Tanner Gross; six stepgrandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Albert (Phyllis) Gross, of Cascade, Frank (Kathleen) Gross, of Farmington, N.M., and Pete Gross, of Denver, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Gross, of Dubuque, and Veronica Gross and Ella Gross, both of Cascade. He also was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, George, Louis, Leo, Robert, Wilfred J. and John L. Gross.
