Rockhill - Prominent Business Man and Farmer of Gilman. Special to Times-Republican - Gilman, Aug 21 -- E.C. Rockhill died at his residence in this city at 4 o'clock Wednesday morning after a long illness. He was 64 years of age and was for many years a prominent business man of our community. Coming here at an early day from his home in Indiana, he located on a farm three miles northwest of the present site of Gilman. In 1879 he quit the farm and moving into town established himself in the general merchandise trade, and in a quiet way by integrity and fair dealing, built up a good business, but about three years ago failing health compelled him to relinquish all business except the supervision of his farms and other real estate. He went in the spring to the Methodist hospital at Des Moines, hoping to get relief from his liver and stomach troubles, and while there underwent three operations for dropsy, but the relief was only temporary and he came home to await the summons of the grim messenger, and end his days peacefully in the care of his loved ones. He leaves a wife and five children, William S. and Walter C. Rockhill, and Mrs. Mary Urbine, Mrs. Elsie Darrah, and Mrs. Florence Church, to mourn their sad bereavement. The funeral will take place at the residence Sunday afternoon. Added 17 Mar 2018
