Mr. Baumbach was born June 9, 1877 at Edgington, Illinois, the son of Herman and Hulda Baumbach. At the age of two he moved with his parents to Black Hawk county, near Cedar Falls. When he was nine the family moved to Greene, where his father was a pastor of the Lutheran church. Mr. Baumbach was born June 9, 1877 at Edgington, Illinois, the son of Herman and Hulda Baumbach. At the age of two he moved with his parents to Black Hawk county, near Cedar Falls. When he was nine the family moved to Greene, where his father was a pastor of the Lutheran church. He was graduated from Greene high school and entered Wartburg college, but due to poor sight was forced to discontinue his college education, and worked in various stores in Greene, and then for three and one-half years in Miller's store at Plainfield. From Plainfield he went to Nashua and worked for Leuthold and St. Clair, and Leuthold and Hinkley. In 1911 he went into partnership and [formed] the company of Leuthold and Baumbach. On January 1, 1932 he became sole owner of the store, which became known as the Baumbach Clothing Company. In February 1936 he sold his business because of ill health, and in later years was treasurer of the San Juan Mining Company of Silverton and Ouray, Colorado. Besides his daughter he is survived by one grandson and one sister, Miss Emma Baumbach of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
