Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. by Holy Spirit Parish. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. on Thursday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Ed's family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on February 19, 1922 in Wheatland Township, Edward Carl was the son of William and Anna (Henrichsen) Nobiling. He grew up near Arcadia and attended country school, later graduating from Arcadia High School. On February 14, 1949 he married his valentine sweetheart, Lucille Lutwitze at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. Following their marriage, Ed and Lucille farmed near Arcadia and in later years also farmed in the Carroll and Glidden area. In 1990, Ed retired from farming and he and Lucille moved to Carroll, but he never retired his overalls. He was an enthusiastic follower of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities across the state. He was also proud to be able to trace his lineage back many hundreds of years. Ed enjoyed baseball, basketball and was an avid reader and storyteller. His contagious sense of humor was evident in his mischievous grin. Ed was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. Survivors include his wife Lucille Nobiling of Carroll; his children: Rose Weaver of Jamestown, ND, Mary Cain of San Francisco, CA, Barb (Gail) Davis of Waukee, Linda (Linn) Olerich of Indianola, Lois (Terry) Kasperbauer of Carroll, Mark (Coyla) Nobiling of Scranton, Bryce Nobiling of Carroll, Glenn Nobiling of Lake City, and Paula (Bob) Lambertz of Carroll; 29 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ella Stammer of Carroll and Viola Hill of Schleswig; his in-laws: Rose Marie (Robert) Iler of Carroll and Dave Lutwitze of Stockton, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Rosalia Lutwitze; three brothers: Elmer (Eva) Nobiling, Orville (Luella) Nobiling, and William (Vera) Nobiling; one sister Charlotte (Alvin) Grundmeier; and in-laws, Jacque Waite, Leslie Stammer, and Harold Hill.
