Upon retiring Wednesday night Mr. Chappell remarked that he felt just fine, but about 3 o'clock Thursday morning he awoke and complained of a sort of rheumatic pain and he took some medicine. A short time later he made a peculiar noise and Mrs. Chappell turned on the light and found that he had passed away. Mr. Chappell had lived in the Loma section for the past 56 years, with the exception of four years spent in California. He was held in the highest esteem of all who knew him and his sudden death came a distinct shock to all. Edward Chappell was born March 18, 1860 at Tuall, England, and came to Winnipeg, Canada, in 1886. He was married to Sarah Wassel, who was born in England, and who arrived about the same time. They moved to Great Falls in 1888 and there conducted a laundry for a year or more, and moved to Loma in 1889 where they took up a homestead, which is the present site of Loma. They engaged in ranching and stockraising for many years. They left Loma in 1919 and purchased a chicken ranch at San Diego, Calif., and remained there until 1923, when they returned to live in Loma. Mrs. Chappell passed away in 1939. Mr. Chappell was married late in 1940 to Mrs. Henry Griesbach, who survives him. He is survived by two sons and two daughters: John of Great Falls and Richard of Seattle; Mrs. John Haugen of California; and Mrs. Peter Christensen of Loma; 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in this city on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was made in the family plot in Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
