Edward Charles Schladweiler, son of John and Anna (Gottsacker) Schladweiler, was born January 5, 1920 at Farmer, SD. He attended St. Peter Catholic School at Farmer. He joined the US Army on December 3, 1941 and served in England, Belgium, France, and Germany with the 1st BN, 36th Infantry, 3rd Armored Division. Edward Charles Schladweiler, son of John and Anna (Gottsacker) Schladweiler, was born January 5, 1920 at Farmer, SD. He attended St. Peter Catholic School at Farmer. He joined the US Army on December 3, 1941 and served in England, Belgium, France, and Germany with the 1st BN, 36th Infantry, 3rd Armored Division. Edward received the Presidential Citation, the Bronze Star, and five major battle stars. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1945. Edward was united in marriage with Luella Brutty on September 4, 1946 in Epiphany, SD. The couple farmed until 1969 and then moved to Alexandria, SD. In Alexandria, Edward was employed with Montgomery Furniture as a carpet installer until his retirement. Edward was a member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters #1766 and a member of the Fulton, Farmer, Epiphany American Legion. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Luella, Alexandria, SD; four children, Dennis Schladweiler and his wife, Evelyn, Solvang, CA; Gary Schladweiler and his wife, Diane, Scottsdale, AZ; David Schladweiler and his wife, Patti, Spearfish, SD; Marilyn Schaefers and her husband, Jeff, Alexandria, SD; three grandchildren, Chris Schaefers and his wife, Lori, Fulton, SD, Joe and Emily Schaefers, Alexandria, SD; one great grandchild, Cain Schaefers, Fulton, SD; two sisters, Margaret Gates, Hartford, SD and Theresa Bayer, Mitchell, SD; a sister-in-law, Irene Schladweiler, Mitchell, SD, a brother-in-law, William Schmitt, Manitowoc, WI; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Cemetery. Arrangements by Will Funeral Chapel.
