Description	:	Son of David & Martha (Friedrich) Leonhard. He attended rural Polk County School before the family moved to York , Nebraska after Martha passed away. Edward graduated from York High School and then attended Grand Island Business School in Grand Island , Nebraska . He entered the US Army on August 27, 1943 and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1945. During this time, Edward saw combat duty from the first days of the D-Day invasion until VE Day. He served in the 788th Engineer Petroleum Dist. Company. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.... Read More	Son of David & Martha (Friedrich) Leonhard. He served in the 788th Engineer Petroleum Dist. Company. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Following the war, he returned to Columbus and opened Leonhard's Conoco which he ran for 45 years. He married Leona (Roth) Abarr on May 7, 1949 in Glenview , Illinois . He and Leona were also the owners of Columbus Bowl for over 30 year's. Ed sold Leonhard's Conoco to a long time trusted friend and employee, Mike Fleming. Ed was a dedicated family man, a trusted and well-respected businessman and a loyal Husker fan. A quiet and mild-mannered gentleman, he always had a ready smile and went out of his way to help others. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church , a member of the VFW, and a 60 year member of the American Legion. Edward is survived by: Daughter – Karen (Carl) Honaker of San Jose , CA Step-Son – Dennis (Herta) Abarr of Chocowinity , NC Grandson – Scott Abarr of Sugar Grove , IL Edward was preceded in death by: Parents – David and Martha Leonhard Wife - Leona Leonhard Brother – Paul Leonhard Brother – Fred Leonhard
