Funeral arrangements under the care of Funeral Alternatives of Snohomish County. =========================== The Daily Herald Everett, Washington Saturday, 7 August 2004 Edward D. Herrin Edward "Ed" Herrin, beloved husband, dad, stepdad, grandpa, and great grandpa, died at age 80 on August 3, 2004, peacefully at home surrounded by family. Ed was born February 8, 1924 in Bow, WA, to Frank and Mable Herrin. He grew up in Skagit County, joining the Army Air Force at age 19. He was an ambulance driver during WWII serving in the New Guinea and the Luzon campaigns. He received the following awards: Philippine Liberation Medal with One Bronze Service Star, American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Victory Medal, and Good conduct Medal. After the war, Ed returned to Skagit County where he held various jobs. He then settled in Everett and retired from the Snohomish County Road District after 21 years. Ed enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. He was known throughout the neighborhood and at family gatherings for his Famous Potato Salad which he always made two batches (one with and one without onions). He loved woodworking, especially making Christmas Reindeer plant stands and doll furniture for his family and friends. Ed liked to be outside keeping his yard manicured. He had a love for animals and had had several family pets over the years, most recently, Freckles, his Cocker Spaniel and Gus, his cat. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; and his son-in-law, Bruce Schlagel. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Anne; children/stepchildren: Linda Miller, Nancy (John) Shogren, Jeannie (Darrell) Lyon, Christine (Gary) Regan, Cathy (Kevin) Forsland, Debbie Schlagel, Joe (AnnaMae) Succa, and Ann Marie (Chris) Grounds. He also is survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. At Ed's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that all donations be made to Providence Hospice of Snohomish County at 2731 Wetmore Ave, Suite 500, Everett, WA 98201 in Ed's name. The family would like to thank the Hospice Central team of Glenda, Cynthia, and our Hospice Angel, Debbie. We wouldn't have been able to do this without you."
